Thursday Motivating Music

during a workout.

The next artist on my play list is Bret Michael's solo album Rock My World. The two songs are Menace to Society, and It's my Party {remix 2008}. I like these two songs because it often reflects the mood I am in. Yes, moms, dads, aunts, and uncles even grandparents get in these moods expressed in these songs. Plus, the beat is fast paced so I can seriously kick it in to high gear when I am in that mood.

Post one artist and two songs in the comments area.

Wednesday Recipe Thread

This week's recipe comes from Cooking Rocks by Rachel Ray 30 minute meals for kids to help cookfrom Pgs 36-37.

Pasta and Trees
______________________

1 pound broccoli
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 pound pasta: Penni, rigate, corkscrew, cavatapp1, elbows, or macaroni shells
1 tablespoon extra-virgin oil (evoo)
1 cup grated Parmesan, parmigiana reggiano, or Romano cheese

Have your GH (grown up helper) put a big pot of water on to boil for the pasta.

Separate the broccoli into small trees by pulling them apart. Ask your GH to trim off the woody strems of your trees so you can break them up right. Put the broccoli florets (trees) into a pot and have the GH add water enough to just cover the tops. The GH should bring the water to a boil and add 4 pinches salt to the water; you can count for them. Cook the broccoli 5 minutes and have GH drain it.

When pasta water boils, have GH put 4 pinches of salt into the pot and add pasta. Cook to all dente (that's Italian for "done but still with a bite to it"), according to the package directions.

Put evoo and butter in a large bowl. Have the GH add hot drained pasta and broccoli to the bowl. Add the cheese to the bowl and stir it all up until the butter melts and the cheese mixes in. Add a little and pepper and taste the pasta and trees to see how the seasoning is.
_________________________________________________________

Substitute the salt in the pasta for chicken bullion on cube. It has just the right amount of salt in it and adds extra flavor.

Try it, let me know how it works. We will be trying it as well. Do you serve it in your house? Tell us how you make it your own.

Wednesday Daily Cailore and Minute Thread

My minutes are
5 minutes warm up/cool down

25 minute run for 1.74 miles on a tread mill speed 4.0 -4.4 with high hills intervals.

Product Review: Wii Gold's Gym Cardio Workout

I just love my DH being a computer tech and game system addict sometimes. When he finds a steal of a deal on games he gets them. This is how we have this one, Wii Gold's Gym Cardio Workout (he found it at Target).

So if you haven't figured out by now we have a wii system, now you do. We have added the wii fit last year bout this time. We liked it because it gave us physical activity inside. It lacke the "review" ability of a real trainer saying what excerises to stop, continue, or move onto. So, we have been looking to add on to this indoor activity. We just reserved our copy of the newest Wii game with a resistant band kit, and a partner kit. Forget the name of it now, darn it that memory just goes when you have kids. Back to the game on hand.......

Okay, love the character set up process. I love the basic instruction to starting. Simple to read and understandable follow allow instructions. You have to complete a how excerise program and move to the next excerise program before it saves your character. The shifting of weight from the front leg to the back leg reminded me of martial arts classes to a degree. Though I have some feeling it will introduce some form of boxing and martial art combo to get a full cardio workout. I just haven't gotten that far yet.

The thing that most frustrated me was, when I took a break from doing it everyday it did not reconnect or see my second remote for the the left hand. I had to switch the control mode to numchuck mode. I didn't like using the numchuck with the wii remote.

Do you have it? What is your like or dislike of the product?

You got a product you want us to review or have your review published? Email me a link with a picture with your review in the email. I will post it here with the picture you send and give you credit for your review. I will ask readers or if there is a local gym that has a take on it.

Tuesday Daily Minute or Calorie Thread

Here is Tuesday's thread for those that are keeping up on your calories or minutes.

5 minutes of taking the trash out to the dumpster

Day 3 Love is not selfish: Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor. Romans 12:10
Whatever you put your time, energy, and money into will become more important to you. It’s hard to care for something you are not investing in; along with restraining from negative comments, buy your spouse something that says, “I was thinking of you today.”

Okay explaination when dealing with sibling rivalry.

I told them that since they really don't have money they must give a hug and a kiss to one another instead of spending. I feel that in this way they are still spending but spending a few minutes than a few dollars.

Resturants

This is a thread that we can review different places to eat that do provide a healthy menu choices.

This is for people on the run not having time to sit down an eat. Here is a list of drive thru choices you have.

Drink either water, lemonade, or powerade depending on what resturant you choose.

Taco Bell has a "Fresco" menu about 9 grams of fat per menu item.

McDonald's, Chik fila, Wendy's all offer wraps and salads that are not too bad. I am not sure about the grams of fat but I typically order one of these.

Burger King is flame broiled so its already cuts down the fat drastically.

These places are generally still not good to do on a daily basis but if in a hurry you have good choices.

My all time favorite is Subway. Its filling and in general better than the rest of the joints listed above.

Higher Class places will have a better selection.

TGIF resturant chain offer a california blt I think its pretty good. I had it yesterday at the park.

Monday Daily Minutes or Calories Thread

Okay, I got 25.05 mins on the tread mill for 1.75 miles plus another 5 minutes for warm up/cool down. Setting on the tred mill was high hills interval speed 4.0-4.4 speed.

Now to explain this next day of the quotes..

Day 2 Love is kind: Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
In addition to saying nothing negative to your spouse again today, do at least one unexpected gesture as an act of kindness.

I explained that a way to be kind to one another to my kids is to not whine at each other or hold the door and expect nothing in return from the other silbing.

Sunday Quotes..

Sunday Quote is where I quote things from books that will make some part of your life a little healthier.

Next fourty days, or approximately six -seven weeks, I will be quoting the Love Dare book. The principals addressed in this book are also good for other relations including workplace. You can't be completely healthy if your relationships are not healthy as well. So, here are this weeks examples and dares. Addressing your releationships can be fun but it can also be eye openning and heart warming. Whatever you discover by doing this, it is by your own choice to face this part of your life. You can not hold me responsibles for the outcomes, because they are the outcomes of your choosing and praying for. I simply give you what I find inspiring to me.

My husband and I are doing this. It will very difficult because he and I use communicate very well but since kids and changing living enviroments it has been quit difficult.

Day 1 Love is patient: Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love Ephesians 4:2 NIV
The first part of this dared is fairly simple. Although love is communicated in a number of ways, our words often reflect the condition of our heart. For the next day resolve to demonstrate patience and to say nothing negative to your spouse at all. If the temptation arises, choose not to say anything. It’s better to hold your tongue than to say something you’ll regret. **So the way I explained this to my kids is if your silbing takes a toy or clothes but doesn't put it back in the correct place do we complain that we didn't make the mess or do we just pick it up when asked by one of the parents. They replied just pick it up. When we get frustrated or mad at someone else in the family do we say ugly words to them or just say, I love anyways. They replied to say I love anyways. For me, it means when my husband leaves the door open for a smart remark not to make that remark unless we are playing around. This is hard for me.

Day 2 Love is kind: Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
In addition to saying nothing negative to your spouse again today, do at least one unexpected gesture as an act of kindness.

Day 4: Love is thoughtful: How precious also are your thoughts to me…How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.”-Psalms 139:17-18
Contact your spouse sometime during the business of the day. Have no agenda other than asking how he or she is doing and if there is anything you could do for them.

Day 5: Love is not rude: He who blesses his friends with a loud voice early in the morning it will be reckoned a curse to him. –Proverbs 27:14
Ask your spouse to tell you three things that cause him or her to be uncomfortable or irritated with you. You must do so without attacking them or justify your behavior. This is from their perspective only.

Day 6 Love is not irritable: He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city. –Proverbs 16:32
Choose today to react to tough circumstances in your marriage in loving ways instead of with irritation. Begin by making a list below of areas where you need to add margin to your schedule. Then list any wrong motivations that you need to release from your life.

Day 7 Love believes the best:[love] believes all things, hopes all things 1 Corinthians 13:7
For today’s dare, get two sheets of paper. On the first one, spend a few minutes writing out positive things about your spouse. Then do the same with negative things on the second sheet. Place both sheets in a secret place for another day. There is a different purpose and plan for each. At some point during the remainder of the day, pick a positive attribute from the first list and thank your spouse for having this characteristic.

Sunday Daily Minutes or Calories Thread

The only excerise I will be getting is walking around a baseball staduim, going up and down the stairs repeatedly today. I will count my minutes and post them later.

Money Saving Tips

Well, my first would be to search you local library for excerise dvds or vhs tapes? Why well, you can always try out the tape or dvd before buying it at the store without wasting money.

Also, the libray may have a wide selection of healthy cook books with lots of delicious recipes to try. Put your tax dollars to use folks. Plus, many library's have a request box for ideas of what to purchase next. Often they may already be considering the same item you are looking at. If they get a enough requests, then they will probably buy it.

You can any ideas to help people save money..Post here. If you don't want to post, email me at meanmomdigitalproductions@gmail.com. I will put that it came in anymousily to me.

Friday Menu Day...

So, today is menu. So before you go off on the walls going why do I need a menu? What will it do for me? Let me tell you, what I have discovered about having a menu prepared ahead time has done for me. It’s saved me money; it’s saved me time, and keeps me from losing my mind at dinner.

Now, before you go turning into bugs bunny being poisoned by one of villains on the Looney tunes by what is shown on my menu. Let me remind you, that I use to work full time. I need items that were quick and easy to fix and within our budget that we set. So, here is our Looney tune menu. Now, next month we will be making some healthy choices for meals. I am currently reviewing Cooking Rocks by Rachel Ray for some healthy easy, kid friendly, and 30 minute meals. If you have tried these...let me know on the next recipe day post what you think.

Monday: Granola bar and yogurt, or cold cereal with skim milk; lunch is sandwiches for DH and, the kids eat at school; dinner was blank I left it open it was a baseball night.

Tuesday: Repeat from above for breakfast; lunch repeat from above; dinner was toasted sandwich expect I ran out of cheese, so, it was just regular sandwiches with chips this week.

Wednesday Recipe Thread

Okay, so, I love chik fil a resturants. i love their salads and wraps the best. I came up with my own take on it. Yet, I can't afford to eat there on a daily basis or weekly basis.

Popcorn Chicken Salad
1. Purchase a bag of popcorn chicken either the great value brand at wal-mart or tyson or banquet. Bake per instructions the number of pieces you wish to have in your salad.

2. Make a salad of your choice while your chicken is baking.

3. Remove chicken from oven once it has been cooked throughly. Then add to your salad. Mix into salad. Pour dressing on and eat.

Not sure if its as healthy as using turkey or chicken that was grilled but its an affordable alternative to eatting out.

Add your recipe in the comments. Please always give credit to a recipe book that it may have originally came from even if you tweeked to your own likely.

Daily Minutes or Calorie Thread

Today I ran on the tred mill 1.76 miles for 25.06 minutes on the program 6 for high hills interval speed starting out at 4.0 went up 4.4.

Post yours below in the comment section.
