Wednesday Recipe Thread

This Recipe is expensive to make but sure does look good. What is it with magazines that think we need the most expensive recipe to actually cook healthy?

Beefy Sweet Onion Soup by Southern Living
1/4 cup butter
6 meduim size sweet oinons thinly sliced
3 tbsp all purpose flour
1 lb top sirlion sbeteak cut into 3/4 in. cubes
2 tbsp vegetable oil (use olive oil for a healhtier subtitue)
1/2 cup dry red wine
6 cups swanson beef broth (use 6 bullion cubes instead and make your own)
1 dutch oven or stew pot or crock pot once the onions and meat are cooked

melt butter in large dutch over or stew pot over medium high heat. Add onions and satue 20 to 24 minutes or until onions begin to carmelize and are very tender. Sprinkle with 1 tbsp flour, and stir gently. Remove from dutch oven or from stew pot. If from stew pot then place onions in crock pot.

Toss beef in remiain tbsp of flour. Cook beef in hot oil in dutch oven or in stew pot over meduim high heat for 6-to 8 minutes or until browned.

Add wine and broth, and stir to loosen particulars from bottom of dutch oven. If using crock pot /stew pot then add to stew pot then transfer to crock pot. add onions and any acculated juices to Dutch oven or switch to crock pot. Dutch oven bring to a boil then reduce heat to low, and simmer 30 minutes. Crock pot turn on high come back in about an hour or set on low and leave all day.

Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake bread slices on a jelly-roll pan to 8 to 10 minutes or until crisp and lightly toasted. Serve with soup.
